Enjoying Coffee Without Damaging Your Teeth

Enjoying Coffee Without Damaging Your Teeth

If you're like me, there's just no way you're going to give up your coffee 😂☕ So here's a little guide to make it less harmful on your teeth! ❤️

Before Coffee

Consider:

  • Oil pulling
  • Using an oil-based toothpaste
  • Applying a remineralizing paste, puddy, or serum

Giving your teeth some mineral support before your coffee can help support a healthier oral environment.

Choose Lower-Acid Coffee

  • Lower-acid coffee may be gentler on your enamel than more acidic varieties.
  • You can also try adding pearl powder to your coffee for additional mineral support.

Try To...

Drink It Within a Shorter Time Period
Rather than sipping coffee all day, try to enjoy it within a shorter window of time. The longer your teeth are exposed to coffee, the longer they're exposed to acids and staining compounds.

Rinse Afterwards
After finishing your coffee, rinse with:

  • Water
  • A baking soda rinse

This can help wash away residue and neutralize acids.

Use Xylitol
Chew xylitol gum or use a xylitol mint/lozenge after coffee. Xylitol supports saliva production, one of your body's natural defenses for maintaining a healthy mouth.

Remember...

Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing.
Coffee and other acidic beverages can temporarily soften the enamel surface. Waiting before brushing allows your saliva time to help rebalance the mouth before mechanical brushing.

Enjoy Your Coffee

You don't have to choose between loving coffee and caring for your teeth. A few simple habits can help reduce coffee's impact while still letting you enjoy your favorite daily ritual.
