Fundamentals
of Remineralization
of Remineralization
True remineralization comes from a combination of daily habits, targeted topicals, the right diet, and proper absorption of minerals. It is whole body healing!
First of all, we want to be sure our teeth are properly cleaned. Regular toothpaste do clean well, but they strip the mouth which makes it more vata / dry which causes bacteria to stick to the teeth more easily, creating a never ending cycle!
Healthy teeth are strong, nourished, and slippery! To achieve this you want to use a clean and gentle mineral toothpaste that both cleans well and introduces minerals back into the mouth and saliva- and one that does not excessively strip the teeth. Our toothpaste is great for that! It is oil-based and very gentle. You need to brush until your teeth feel clean and polished. If you need abrasivity, try our whitening tooth scrub (or you can mix and match the two to get your custom dergree of abrasivity.
Oil pulling before brushing is wonderful - it helps lift stains, loosen plaque and get a deeper clean. It clears toxins, and leaves a protective varnish on the teeth. Ideally you can do it daily with sesame or coconut oil, preferably before brushing. You can also use our gum or tooth serum if you don’t feel like oil pulling. Simply brush it on after you brush your teeth! Brush twice if needed, but the goal is that your teeth feel smooth and slippery by the end.
Many people also like to use ozone topically for extra antibacterial power. Iodine is another good option to stop active decay. If you a high bacterial load, you can also gargle with herbs like neem, andrographis, myrrh, or honeysuckle.
Flossing and tongue scraping are helpful too. Be sure to not mouth breathe! This dries out the mouth and prevents healing. Use a Neti pot and nasya to clear the sinuses before bed and use mouth tape if you need too. You may also want to use a humidifier at night to keep the air and your mouth and sinuses moist!
Your teeth are living tissue. They need the right building blocks. Prioritize mineral-rich whole foods: pastured egg yolks, grass-fed dairy, bone broth, beef, bone marrow, liver, natto, sardines with bones, seaweeds, sesame seeds, sesame seeds, organ meats, soaked almonds, fermented grains, and leafy greens.
I recommend eating seasonally and locally to stay in tune with the natural rhythms which ultimately is very supportive of your body and very healing. Avoid anything that depletes minerals: sugar, excessive fruit, cold drinks, processed grains, or frequent snacking. From an Ayurvedic view, you need strong agni to absorb minerals, so stick with warm, well-spiced, easy-to-digest meals and avoid cold, raw foods that dampen digestive fire.
Unlike our bones, we have the ability to touch our teeth. This is amazing bc we are able to apply topical products to support healing.
Our primal puddy is made with fat-rich oils high in K2 and D3 to drive minerals deep into the enamel. It provides abundant bioavailable minerals from pearl, colostrum, shilajit, bovine hydroxyapatite and more to deeply nourish the teeth and support healing. Our OG puddy has the same intention but gets its power from Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs, coral hydroxyapatite, and organic sesame oil (the preferred Ayurvedic oil for dental healing) Apply it gently after brushing and let it sit!
You can utilize Ayurvedic and Chinese herbs known for bone healing; hadjod, black sesame, drynaria, shilajit, rehmannia, eucommia, teasel root, and more. You can also incorporate natural mineral sources because like increases like! Coral, pearl, dragon bone, egg shell, bone meal, etc. Our Bone Renewal is a lovely, balanced blend containing all of our fav bone healing herbs and minerals. If you are into homeopathy, you can also utilize homeopathic cell salts.
In TCM, the Kidneys govern bones and teeth. Focus on foods and herbs that nourish Kidney Yin and Essence — black sesame, goji berries, dendrobium, cooked mineral broths, rehmannia, and eucommia. Yin deficiency often shows up as dry mouth — and without moisture, your oral tissues can’t absorb the minerals you’re giving them. Saliva is the medium of remineralization. If your mouth is dry, your body may be too depleted to receive the medicine. Hydrate deeply, and build your yin with rest, broth, ghee, and mineral-rich herbs.
Energetically, our bones and teeth are our stability. When we experience issues with them it can feel like our reality is crumbling. It’s no coincidence that anxiety is connected directly to mineral deficiency! Maybe that’s why dogs need to chew bones to relieve stress and you need to chew your nails when you’re nervous! Yes, nourish yourself with minerals... but also soften your nervous system. You are safe. You are - okay even if your teeth are struggling right now. It’s not the end of the world or your story. Breathe. Let your body feel safety again. This is part of the healing.
Remineralization takes effort and intention - but your teeth are alive. They want to heal. Your body is brilliantly designed to regenerate when given the right tools. Your belief is the blueprint that allows healing to unfold! ❤️
